Macknight Room: Sampler (DNA), 2002 Sampler (DNA), which deals with the immortal permanence of the basic elements of life, appears in the intimate Macknight Room under John Singer Sargent’s poignant watercolor Mrs. Gardner in White, which was made when the Museum’s founder was eighty-two, and nearing her death. It stands in contrast to a vibrant portrait of Mrs. Gardner that Sargent had made thirty-four years earlier, which hangs in the Gothic Room. Photograph by Yoav Horesh |
